Newcastle owner feels he should have axed Sam in summer

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has admitted he made 'a mistake' by not immediately appointing a new manager when he took over the club last summer.

Ashley took charge at St James' Park shortly after Sam Allardyce had been appointed by his predecessor Freddy Shepherd.

Rumours and reports had been widespread all season that The Magpies owner was far from happy with Allardyce.

After much speculation, Allardyce's 24-game spell in charge of Newcastle finally came to an end as he left Tyneside by 'mutual agreement' on Wednesday.
