British tabloid The Mirror reports a TV crew filmed the rooms at the Carlton Intercontinental that the 49-year-old singer stayed in during the Cannes festival.

The footage was aired on France's Canal Plus channel, the paper reports.

French newspaper Le Parisien claims the hotel allowed the camera crew in before Madonna arrived.

It's not the first time Madonna has made headlines for her toilet behaviour. In 2006, SFGate.com reported that Madonna insisted on a new toilet seat at every venue she played on her Confessions world tour.

The toilet seat had to be wrapped in plastic, no one else was allowed to use it, and it had to be destroyed afterwards so it couldn't be sold on eBay.

At the time, Madonna's rep Liz Rosenberg said: "I don't know if anyone helps her wipe but there are probably people who would volunteer."
